History of Hunter Valley Karate

Hunter Valley Karate began in 1983 under Sensei Trevor Trainor at Come Alive Health & Fitness Centre Rutherford, NSW.

In 1989 with the assistance of Richard Morris, Blaine Scarr & Philip Penfold a second dojo was opened at Greenhills.

In 1991, Sensei Trainor, together with then Sempai Philip Penfold, opened a full time dojo in High Street, Maitland, NSW.

After Sensei Trainor's retirement in 1994, and after holding classes at Le Club Physique Fitness Centre & East Maitland Primary School, Hunter Valley Karate moved to its current locations at Maitland Park (Church Hall) & Thornton Public School.

In August 2006 Sensei Penfold opened two further dojos at Tenambit (now Grossmann High) and Telarah Public School

In March 2008 Sensei Penfold retired with Sempai Daniel Langworthy taking on the role of Chief Instructor
